Sources and color data

Published seasonal descriptions inform the framework. The palettes, quiz rules and explanations here are original.

Seasonal descriptions

The Concept Wardrobe's season guides describe warmth, depth and chroma, and discuss neighboring palettes. Each season page links its relevant guide. We use the common framework and write our own explanations; no consultancy palette has been copied.

Color conversion and naming

W3C CSS Color Module Level 4 supplies color-space and sRGB conversion references. CIELAB uses a D65 reference white here, which differs from CSS lab()'s D50 reference. Names come from the xkcd color survey, released under CC0. Names approximate the closest familiar color and are not official dye, paint, textile or cosmetic product specifications.

Typeface and design provenance

Geist and Geist Mono are self-hosted under SIL Open Font License 1.1. The site follows the supplied Palette Supply style reference. Generated design studies guided layout only; all visible runtime swatches are built from the local color data.

Prices and updates

The consultation-cost guide cites two individual providers' published prices, checked October 2, 2026. They are examples, not a market average, and should be confirmed with the provider. Our changelog records site updates.

Primary references

  • The Concept Wardrobe: seasonal color analysis

Qualitative descriptions of temperature, depth and clarity in the twelve-season framework. Each season page links its specific guide.

  • Style with DC: sixteen-season interpretations

Evidence that expanded models have different subdivisions and naming conventions. No provider palette has been copied.

  • Colors With Kate: expanded gap palettes

Examples of the Soft Spring, Bright Autumn, Deep Summer and Soft Winter labels, used to explain additional color directions rather than promise a universal sixteen-season map.

  • W3C CSS Color 4

sRGB transfer functions and the distinction between color spaces. Our implementation uses CIELAB with D65; CSS lab() uses D50, so our Lab coordinates are not passed directly to CSS lab().

  • Bruce Lindbloom: RGB/XYZ matrices

D65 sRGB matrix constants and CIELAB conversion references used by the local pure-PHP color calculations.

  • xkcd color survey names

CC0 color names imported from the sibling Color Code Index dataset. Names describe the nearest survey color, not a fabric, cosmetic or product shade.

  • House of Colour: Bethany Straub

One provider's published private consultation price, checked October 2, 2026; an example, not a market average.

  • House of Colour: Hayley McNeil

A second provider's published consultation price, checked October 2, 2026; confirm current prices directly.
